Refreshed experience with CX in the capital city - Beijing Airport T3 Business Class Lounge
Slated for opening in July of 2025, this prestigious project showcases Spaze Design’s unparalleled expertise in navigating complex technical and design challenges to create a bespoke, world-class airport lounge experience. As the lead consultant, Spaze Design was entrusted with full project design and meticulous project management, overseeing every facet of the lounge's development.
"We are incredibly proud of our team's ingenuity and perseverance... This project exemplifies our commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and engineering, delivering tailored solutions that meet the highest standards of safety."
The project presented significant architectural and engineering hurdles, primarily driven by the stringent demands of an active airport environment. A critical challenge involved establishing a distinct air conditioning atmosphere for the lounge, entirely separate from the airport’s central system, due to inherent fire system design incompatibilities.
Furthermore, the design vision called for the timeless warmth and elegance of wood, despite airport regulations strictly prohibiting the use of combustible materials for fire safety. Spaze Design’s dedicated team embraced this seemingly contradictory requirement, undertaking extensive research, study, and rigorous testing to identify and integrate innovative, non-combustible wood-effect materials.

Twenty Years: The Scale of Growth
From our first sketches to a future driven by digital intelligence
Twenty years is a span of time that can see a child grow into an adult. To us, these two decades have been a long journey toward "maturity." Even after twenty years, we still feel the pulse of a young firm—always eager, always refining our foundations with every new project.
Our path hasn't always been a straight line. We’ve shared the excitement of creative breakthroughs and faced the quiet hardships of challenging seasons. We’ve listened to honest critiques and embraced every high and low. Through it all, we’ve kept our heads high, driven by a simple passion for the work.
If this company is a living system, I am merely the one who set its initial logic. The real strength and resilience of this practice come from our team. Without these capable partners by my side, no blueprint could ever truly take root. My greatest wish is that our work continues to serve as a foundation, supporting our clients as they reach their own desired destinations.
What moves me most is watching our community expand. Seeing our colleagues welcome new life into their families reminds us that our bond goes far beyond the office walls. We grow stronger because we include those whom our friends and partners hold dear.
Our "gear" has evolved along with us. From setting up our first server in 2009 and a data hub in 2011, to bringing in 3D laser scanning in 2016 and local AI servers in 2023—these technical milestones are the skeleton that supports our future. I will never stop pushing to improve, ensuring we provide our trusted partners with the efficiency and quality they deserve.
It is hard to find the right words to thank the clients who trusted us when we were young, and the colleagues who have put their faith in this studio for so long. To all of you, a simple and sincere "thank you" is only the beginning.

Enhanced Travel Experience with Inaugural Cathay Pacific Lounge at Shekou Cruise Homeport
We proudly announce the successful completion and opening of the Cathay Pacific Shenzhen VIP Lounge, located at the Shekou Cruise Homeport.
Opened in December 2023, this landmark project represents Cathay Pacific’s pioneering venture into establishing a premium lounge outside an airport environment, with spaze design as the visionary architectural designer.
The Shekou Cruise Homeport lounge is a pivotal addition for passengers utilizing the high-speed ferry connections to and from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). Tasked with designing a space that would resonate with Cathay Pacific's renowned brand standards while addressing the unique challenges of a pier location, spaze design crafted an "Urban Oasis" concept.
A primary challenge tackled by Spaze design was mitigating the high humidity characteristic of Shenzhen’s climate. Through careful material selection and integrated environmental controls, the lounge provides a consistently comfortable, climate-controlled sanctuary.
Furthermore, the design expertly navigates the distinct expectations of pier users, who often have varying dwell times compared to airport passengers. The layout features thoughtfully zoned areas for work, relaxation, and dining, ensuring both efficient transit and a serene waiting experience for all premium travellers. Natural timber, lush greenery, and sophisticated lighting create a warm, inviting ambiance, embodying a sense of calm before the journey.
The Cathay Pacific Shenzhen VIP Lounge is a testament to spaze design’s expertise in creating sophisticated, functional, and contextually sensitive environments that enhance user experience.

Our Home Base Pride at Shanghai Pudong Airport T2 Business Class Lounge
We proudly announce the successful completion and opening of the Cathay Pacific Business Class Lounge located in Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) Terminal 2. Opened in early August 2019, this expansive 1,000-square-meter facility sets a new benchmark for premium airport lounges in the region.
Spaze Design served as the lead consultant, overseeing a comprehensive scope of works that included critical project management, detailed project design, MEP design, and specialized kitchen consultancy. Our team was instrumental in bringing Cathay Pacific's acclaimed "residential apartment" design philosophy to life within the complex operational environment of a major international airport.
The lounge features warm, natural materials such as dark cherry wood, limestone, and bronze, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and sophisticated comfort. A key highlight includes Cathay Pacific’s signature Noodle Bar, The Pantry, and a full-service bar.
"This project for Cathay Pacific was a testament to our team's comprehensive capabilities and unwavering commitment to excellence. We are incredibly proud to have delivered a world-class lounge that exceeds high standards while navigating unique airport complexities."
The project presented significant challenges, particularly navigating the stringent statutory submission procedures and securing complex approvals from various airport authorities. Spaze Design’s proactive and meticulous approach was crucial in managing these intricate regulatory requirements.

Heritage Reborn: The Meticulous Restoration of Shanghai’s Rong Zhai
Following five years of unwavering dedication, the restoration of Shanghai’s "Rong Zhai"—commissioned by Fondazione Prada with spaze design as a core partner—has reached its successful completion. This 1918 historical gem has finally emerged from its restorative veil, its century-old architectural elegance revived through the rigorous philosophy of "restoring the old as it was."
Serving as the client’s representative, spaze design navigated the intricate dialogue between historical preservation and modern functionality. Our role was comprehensive: from conducting exhaustive structural surveys to leveraging our technical expertise to secure planning and building permits within a highly regulated environment. In close collaboration with Studio Bacciochi, we meticulously curated material samples to ensure every restoration detail integrated seamlessly with the original fabric.
A defining challenge of the project was reconciling strict "no-structural-change" mandates with modern fire safety requirements. We implemented an innovative "reversible staircase" solution—a move that elegantly fulfilled emergency egress codes without compromising the building's structural integrity. This approach not only guarded the historical soul of Rong Zhai but also demonstrated our ability to deliver context-sensitive solutions for high-stakes heritage conservation.
This achievement is more than a technical triumph; it is a profound tribute to history. We are immensely proud to have played a pivotal role in the rebirth of this urban landmark, ensuring it continues to shine brilliantly for generations to come.
